Giovanni Hoffer ranks as one of the best and innovative horn players on the Italian music scene. Already a full member of the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala in Milan and for over twenty years a regular performer at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Giovanni Hoffer performs regularly at the most prestigious European jazz festivals, collaborating with world-renowned artists such as Wahyne Shorter, Enrico Pieranunzi, Kenny Wheeler, and Paolo Fresu.
At the same time, Hoffer has realized ambitious jazz projects. As one of only a few horn players, he developed his own tonal language, shaping a Jazz-technique and contemporary approach to improvisation as bandleader, soloist as well as in bigger ensembles. Giovanni Hoffer teaches and performs at the “Seminario Internacional de Jazz i musica latina” in Valencia in collaboration with the Berklee College of Music (Boston), “Italian Brass Week”, “Festival cornistico dell´Etna”, “Accademia mediterranea del corno“, “Lydian Sound Orchestra“, “Umbria Jazz Orchestra“, “Italian Jazz Orchestra“.
He worked with Wayne Shorter,Kenny Wheeler, John Patitucci, Paolo Fresu.
He also worked with pop musicians such as Vasco Rossi, Francesco Renga, Niccolo´Fabi and many more.
In 2017/2018 Hoffer released three Cds: his duo-project with Alessandro Altarocca on the Piano, a second project with mostly original compositions of his own with his quartet (p.f. Alessandro Altarocca, Kb. Stefano Senni, Dr.Filippo Mignatti) and a very special Cd in collaboration with the contemporary composer Giuseppe Ricotta and a string quintet. Alongside his concert activities, Giovanni Hoffer is also heavily involved in teaching: he currently teaches horn at the “A. Buzolla” Conservatory in Adria and jazz horn at the “G. B. Martini” Conservatory in Bologna.
In addition, he is often invited to give jazz horn masterclasses in Italy, Spain, and France.

Giovanni Hoffer is one of the few who can truly afford to perform standards that are part of the collective imagination. His technical mastery, musicality, and interpretive finesse make him one of the most accomplished musicians on today’s scene.
