Sandro Nebieridze

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, he began studying music at the age of five. His double vocation for composition and the piano emerged from the outset, cultivated under Lali Sanikidze and Maka Virsaladze. After graduating from the Music Seminary of the Tbilisi State Conservatory he continued his studies at the same institution, later taking postgraduate courses at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich with Antti Siirala and at the Fondazione Accademia di Imola with Boris Petrushansky. These traditions have shaped a recognisable musical voice, marked by intellectual clarity and emotional depth.

International recognition came early. Nebieridze has distinguished himself in major competitions, including Second Prize and the Junior Jury Prize at the 65th Ferruccio Busoni International Competition (2025), First Prize at the Steinway Förderpreis (2025), Second Prize at the Kissinger Klavierolymp (2021) and the Grand Prix at the Grand Piano Competition (2016). Beyond the awards, what defines his identity as a pianist is the expressive range of his sound, often described as at once architectural and poetically intimate.

His debut album, devoted to Rachmaninov and Prokofiev, was released in 2019 by Harmonia Mundi and won the Tsinandali Prize and an Opus Klassik nomination. Since then his concert career has taken him across Europe, working with orchestras including the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Janáček Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra and the PCYO. He has worked with conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda, Petr Popelka, George Pehlivanian, Beatrice Venezi and Rory Macdonald, among many others, and is a regular guest at international festivals including Kissinger Sommer, the Tsinandali Festival, Mozart@Augsburg, the Delft Chamber Music Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise and Encuentro Santander.

Alongside his work as a pianist, composition holds a central place in his artistic world. His catalogue includes piano works, chamber music, two piano concertos and a number of symphonic scores, among them an opera and a ballet. His compositions have been performed at venues such as the Kulturpalast in Dresden, the amphitheatre of the Tsinandali Festival, the P. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Berlin Philharmonie, and have received national prizes for the Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Trio “The Elements”, as well as international recognition for his Toccata in Vienna.

In 2025 Genuin Classics released his new album, made with the violist Ionel Ungureanu and recorded at the studios of the Bayerischer Rundfunk. The programme weaves tradition and invention together: Bloch’s Suite, the first recording of Jaromir L. Hruška’s Sonata, and their joint composition Tunisian Rhapsody, inspired by Dizzy Gillespie — an example of his openness to dialogue between different languages and periods.

Supported by the Lisa Batiashvili Foundation and the Martha Pulvermacher Foundation, Sandro Nebieridze continues to perform across Europe, working on new commissions and bringing his musical identity, rich in colour and influence, to international stages.
