Shostakovich: Complete Works for Piano Trio, the new recording project by the Trio Kanon, is out now on Brilliant Classics.
The trio — Lena Yokoyama (violin), Alessandro Copia (cello) and Diego Maccagnola (piano) — brings together Shostakovich’s complete output for this ensemble: the Trio No. 1, Op. 8, the Trio No. 2, Op. 67 and the Seven Romances on Poems by Alexander Blok, Op. 127. The programme spans forty years of writing — from the early works to the late, more inward pages — and takes shape alongside the celebrations marking fifty years since the composer’s death in 2025.
Founded in 2012 and trained under the Trio di Parma, Alexander Lonquich at the Accademia Chigiana and Oliver Wille at ProQuartet in Paris, the Trio Kanon is today among the most admired chamber ensembles of its generation, with an established presence at major festivals and concert seasons in Italy and abroad. This is their first complete recording of Shostakovich’s trio repertoire, and it includes the Romances in their original version with voice.
The Blok Romances are performed by the Russian soprano Irina Dubrovskaya, an artist of refined sensitivity who also brings to these texts full command of the original language.
